This will be an easy, family friendly hike around Huay Lan reservoir.   We shall park at the eastern side of the main reservoir. After crossing the dam, we will follow a fairly easy dirt road going along the west side of the lake, then an undulating trail that links to the southern dam, where we will stop for snacks / packed lunch.  Then walk back along the quiet road to the start / finish line. We will walk a total of about 7km.  Should be a nice new walk in an area that the group has seldom visited. There is another considerably tougher hike on the same day.

Rough GPS Trail

Here is a Google Earth KML file showing where we will be going.

The trail is fairly flat, not involving significant climbing or ascending. The whole trail is at a height above sea level of 300 – 400 meters but still hopefully it will be fairly cool as the weather anyway is quite cool now.

Transportation from the meeting point

We will share cars to drive out to On Tai. It is 30 km from the Railway Station and will take a little less than one hour to drive out there. For those who do not have a car there are normally just enough spaces in cars to fit everybody in. We do this all the time and there have always been enough spare places. If there are not we can arrange transportation by songtaew. We would suggest a 150 B donation towards petrol for a lift there and back for the 30 km journey, if sharing a car.

Advice

  • Bring around 2 liters of water or more, some kind of lunch and snacks
  • Good footwear etc. hat, mozzie repellant and sunblock
