Sunday 9th October, A Huay Tung Thao Loop Going Into the Mountains
The Golden Standing Buddha - we will meet near here for this hike
The Huay Tung Thao Loop is a very challenging 16 km hike in the area immediately west of the reservoir and should take us between 5 – 6 hours
After a warm up back along the road to the dam, we will head up the mountain, following the ridge. The initial stretch is a stiff uphill climb of some 750 metres which will probably take us about 2 hours, but we will be rewarded with some amazing views along the way.
The path back down is a wide dirt track through beautiful valleys and lychee orchards where we shall stop for a breakfast break, before making the final descent back to Huay Tung Thao.
Bring around 1.5-2 liters of water or more and snacks. Good footwear etc. hat, mozzie repellant, sunblock and rain gear. If by chance it is raining heavily we will probably cancel the hike. But in the case of lighter rain and it looks like the weather might clear up we will probably go ahead with the hike and brave the rain which will at least cool us down.
We will meet at the standing Buddha inside the Huay Tung Thao lake. Go into Huay Tung Thao and around the lake you can see the big Buddha from a distance, it is on the opposite side of the lake to the entrance.
8:00 am for an 8.15 am start
Hikers will need to make their own arrangements to get to the starting point. Please be advised that there is a 20 THB entrance fee into the reservoir area.
Drink / Food
Bring enough water and food for a breakfast break in the middle of the hike.
