Sunday 17th of April 2011 – Riverside Walk in Ob Khan National Park
We shall follow the Ob Khan Nature Trail which is very picturesque: a ‘there and back’ walk along the valley and gorge with some sections not shaded, partly through forest, by a river. It is a nice walk on a nice day (something we cannot promise) with a possibility to get a closer look at all the rock formations created by the river.
This will be a short (5.5 km) sedately paced hike on level ground beside a river, though there is usually some clambering over rocks.
As the water level in the river here, Mae Nam Khan, is fairly low the first half of the walk will be on the shore
(Hopefully the recent rain has not changed the picture too much).
There may be some tricky steps due to debris left during the last rainy season, but mainly it is not a difficult walk.
The return will be along the path on a slope which offers a little bit more of ups and downs.
Bring around 1.5-2 liters of water or more and snacks. Good footwear etc. hat, mozzie repellant, sunblock and rain gear. If by chance it is raining heavily we will probably cancel the hike. But in the case of lighter rain and it looks like the weather might clear up we will probably go ahead with the hike and brave the rain which will at least cool us down.
Usual meeting point at Arboretum
(Final meeting point 8:45 am at Ob Khan parking lot)
Ideally own transport is preferable. Depending on the number of private cars available there may be the option of car sharing but please be prepared to pay at least 100 THB to the driver as a contribution towards the petrol costs.
Alternatively, we may have to arrange a songthaeow but the cost will have to be negotiated on the day.
Drink / Food
Bring enough water and food for a breakfast break in the middle of the hike.
